Ring of Baikal

An exciting journey that covers all popular tourist places: Olkhon Island, Turka, Ulan-Ude, Southern Baikal, the foothills of Khamar-Daban.
The cost of the program includes:

itinerary:

Day 1 – Meeting in Irkutsk, transfer to the Small Sea, boat trip to Olkon Island
  • We meet our guests at the airport. After breakfast at one of the city restaurants we will take a trip by minibus to the Small Sea – straight between Olkhon Island and the mainland. Enjoy lunch of Local Buryat Cuisine en route.
  • Upon arrival to the Small Sea we will board speed boat for a small cruising trip to the biggest Island of Baikal, Olkhon with the visit to Ogoy Island famous for the Buddist Temple built in 2004.
  • In the afternoon we will check in at «Port Olkhon» hotel. Dinner of local cuisine. Overnight on the Island.

 Day 2 – Off road safari to Khoboy cape
  • Breakfast. We will start this day with the visit to the famous shamanka rock. Visiting this place you’ll feel its spirit and power, and will become one step closer to the world of shamans.
  • Then we continue exploring the Island by off road cars. We will drive to the northern most point of Olkhon Island– Khoboy cape with picnic lunch (fish soup cooked on fire). We will admire the spectacular view of the widest part of Lake Baikal from the Khoboy rock.
  • Return to the hotel before dinner. Enjoy some spare time. Dinner to be served at the restaurant of the hotel.

  Day 3 – Cruising to Turka, transfer to Ulan-Ude
  • After breakfast and check out we start our cruising trip on Lake Baikal from Olkhon Island to Turka settlement. We will cross the lake from West to East. You will be able to appreciate the dimensions of the lake and its beauty. Lunch on route.
  • Coming to Turka we continue our trip further by coach to Ulan-Ude - the capital city of Buryat republic.
  • Upon arrival check in at Mergen Bator tour complex. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 4 – Sightseeing Ulan-Ude and visit to Ivolginsky Datsan
  • After breakfast we will go on a guided sightseeing tour of Ulan-Ude. During the tour today we will visit the historical center of old Verkhneudinsk (nowadays - Ulan-Ude), the merchants' houses of the XVIII-XIXth centuries, churches and the biggest Lenin's head in the world!
  • Lunch of national Buryat cuisine and tour to Ivolginsky Buddhist monastery (35 km away from Ulan-Ude) - the center of Buddhism in Russia. It is a beautiful temple opened for visitors. Nowadays it also includes a famous Buddhist University "Dashi Choikhorling". Here Buddhist monks scientists, specialists in Tibetan and Old Mongolian languages and orientalists are taught.
  • Dinner back at the hotel. Overnight.

Day 5 – Transfer to Belosnezka hotel, located at the foot heels of Khamar Daban
  • Breakfast. Departure by coach to Tankhoy – small settlement on the southern shore of Lake Baikal located on the territory of baikal nature reserve. We will travel about 4 hours.
  • Upon arrival to Takhoy we will visit the Baikal Biosphere Nature Reserve - a protected wildlife area, located directly across Listvyanka, on the opposite side of Lake Baikal. We will undertake a walking tour in the midst of well-groomed trails in the relic taiga of Khamar-Daban. Lunch.
  • Further transfer to Novosneznay settlement (30 minutes). Check in at a hotel «Belosnezka» in twin rooms with mountain peaks view.
  • Dinner of local baikal cuisine at the restaurant of the hotel. Evening walking to enjoy the sunset on Lake Baikal shore. Russian steam sauna (paid extra on spot)

Day 6 – Airboat trip along the Sneznaya river, trekking to Grokhotun waterfall
  • Today we will undertake an airboat trip along the Snezhnaya river and will go trekking to Grokhotun waterfall, named after the amazing sound (grokhot) made by the falling water.
  • "Grokhotun" waterfall is the biggest of all five waterfalls on Gromotukha river. The trail to this waterfall starts from Selenginka river.
  • Swimming at the waterfall on your wish. Picnic.
  • In the afternoon return by airboats to the hotel. Dinner.

Day 7 – Departure to Irkutsk airport, flight to….

Lake Baikal is a huge ancient lake in the Siberian mountains north of the Mongolian border. Baikal is considered the deepest lake in the world.
  • There are many reasons to go to Baikal - the main thing is to choose the ones that suit the season:
  • See the natural beauty of Lake Baikal and its surroundings.
  • Take a photo of the Baikal seal and try the Baikal omul, learn about the endemics of the lake.
  • Ride along the Circum-Baikal Railway on a steam-powered train through many tunnels and galleries near the water.
  • Swim in summer Baikal or hear the singing of the ice of a winter lake and skate along it.
