«Best of Winter Baikal» 2024

Experience a balance of local food, beautiful nature and winter activities on this 7 days trip from South Baikal to Olkhon Island. Use this itinerary to plan your getaway.

Tour cost includes:

Snowmobile rent (2 pax on a snowmobile);
Whole day Ice safari on hovercraft from South to Olkhon Island, journey on hovercraft to the Small sea;
Skating and husky dog sledding;
Tour escort and instructor on snowmobiles;
All transfers and visits as per the itinerary (Foothills of Khamar-Daban mountain range, the valley of Snezhnaya River, MAMAY mountain, Olkhon Island, Small sea);

Itinerary:

Day 1

Arrival in Irkutsk by evening flight from_____, meeting at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 2

After breakfast our journey takes us to a cozy pine chalet type hotel, located in Novosneznaya settlement at the confluence of Sneznaya river in Lake Baikal. It is a small family hotel with a breathtaking view of the snow-topped peaks of Khamar-Daban mountain range.
En route we will make a stop and visit the the husky sledding center. Following a brief lesson at the kennel, you’ll soon be mushing with your own sled, pulled by a team of energetic huskies, through the woods and over the snowy plains.
After tea party we continue further to Novosneznaya settlement.
Upon arrival enjoy “Belosnezka” hotel welcome drink while check in. Before dinner we will visit the Siberian Banya (steam bath). Our special birch and fir besoms shall be prepared for you.
In the evening enjoy dinner of local cuisine and rest in peaceful place with unique nature.

Day 3

This morning we continue our adventure trip on Baikal and will head by snowmobiles to the Mamay Mountain - a local Baikal point of attraction for mountain skiers and snowboarders. This safari takes you on an unforgettable journey to admire beautiful landscapes of winter lake Baikal and stunning views of Khamar Daban Mountain range.
This area gets a lot of precipitations throughout the year, that's why snow gets 2.5-5 meters deep here. We will travel with stops en route to enjoy the pure mountain air, superb views and walk in the fairy tale winter forest. Lunch in Mamay chalet.
Return to “Belosnezka” hotel in the evening. Dinner to be served at the restaurant of the hotel. Overnight.

Day 4

After breakfast we get on the amphibious vehicles (Hivus) to take a journey along the ice of Baikal to Olkhon, the largest island of the lake considered its sacral center. It was the first place on Baikal, which Russian explorers visited during the 17th century.
We will stop en route to visit the Peschanaya Bay - one of the most wonderful places of Baikal - to walk on the shore to see the walking trees, enjoy the views of the wild Babushka Bay and for lunch (lunch boxes and hot drinks).
We will cross by ice the Olkhon Gates straight separating the island from the mainland.
Upon arrival to Khuzir settlement check in at “PortOlkhon” hotel. Dinner of Baikal cuisine. Overnight.

Day 5

In the morning we will meet with local practicing shaman, and take part in a ceremony of purification on Burkhan Cape (Shaman Rock), which is known as one of the palaces of Heaven's gods, tengrii (gods), and one of Asia's most sacred places. A scenic spot, which is a subject of numerous legends and veneration by all Baikal and Mongolian shamans and a site for religious rites of the Buddhists.
Enjoy some spare time after lunch on the Island.
Dinner and overnight at Port Olkhon.

Dat 6

After breakfast we will depart on hovercrafts from the Island, heading towards the Small Sea - a part of Baikal between the mainland and Olkhon Island. Maloe More is famous in March for its spectacular smooth surface of the transparent ice that is quickly freed of the snow by winds. We will travel along the islands of the Small sea – OGOY, IZHILNEY, OLTREC, KHIBIN with stops to peer into the impressive deep blue depths under your feet and at the quaint patterns of crack lines and ribbons and to explore the bizarre ice formations – shields, piles and icicles covering the rocks at the shore. Walk to the top of the Ohoi island to admire the Buddhist stupa and have splendid views.
We will finish our ice sfari on hovercrafts on the Small Sea, enjoy lunch of traditional buryat cuisine (boozy, buhler) and return by coach to Irkutsk.
Dinner. Overnight at the hotel in Irkutsk.

Day 7

Farewell. Return flight to _______.
